Rak beach is located in the north east of
Koh Samui and has white sand, nice swimming
options and safety for kids. Bang Rak is
more than just a beach. The surrounding
village and a must visit for its
restaurants, low key but fun nightlife and
general fun atmosphere.
Itís a quiet area, but thereís a lot on
offer. The restaurants are of an
international standard at one end, and
impossibly cheap yet delicious at the other.
A number of resorts offer dining right on
the beach, close to the gentle water. Saboey
and Quo Vadis is a good choice and has its
own style of fusion cuisine.
You can enjoy swimming all year round
because the waters are so clam. Then,
retiring to the sands for a rest, you wonít
be bothered by vendours selling their trashy
trinkets like on so much of the island face.
Big Buddha is within easy reach. Itís a big
statue of the Buddha and Samuiís most
visited tourist attraction.
Bang Rak is also home to one of our
favourite sports bars, The Office: big
screens, well managed, no pestering from bar
girls and all the international sports of
the day shown on schedule, a comfortable and
lazy way to spend your days.
Thereís a pier in Bang Rak, and from here
you can pop over to the Full Moon Party once
a month. To keep you occupied in the mean
time, there are daily trips over to the
Angthong National Marine Park. The place has
a good claim to being paradise on earth and
is a must visit.
